Our History
The key decision-makers of the time believed that establishing an aviation company to create an airlink between Malta and Libya would be socio-economically viable and mutually beneficial. From this vision, the idea of setting up such a company emerged.
A meeting was held between key promoters, including the chairpersons airlines and aviation entities, along with other stakeholders. During this meeting, it was decided that a feasibility study and business plan would be commissioned as the first steps toward turning the idea into reality.
Following the completion of the business plan, an action plan was developed by those responsible for the task force, with the support of an area manager based in Malta. This team played a crucial role in laying the groundwork for the company’s establishment.

At its inception, Medavia had a very specific scope of activity focused around providing customised air transportation services to the Libyan oil industry. Although some of the oil companies had their own aviation departments to operate light aircraft, others preferred to lease in this specialised service rather than develop an in-house capability.
Commencement of services was not accompanied by much fanfare or publicity. Medavia had the policy of operating with a very low profile and was very much geared to getting the job done. In those early days it was operational and technical issues that Management focused on. The aircraft went into operation with minimal technical support and one engineer that accompanied the aircraft.
Facilities at the time were a small area that served as the crew briefing room, mess room, spares storage and workshop. This is a far cry from the spacious and well appointed hangars now owned by Medavia.

During its years of operation, Medavia has undergone multiple strategic restructuring programs. While these were driven by the challenges and opportunities of the times, they ultimately played a pivotal role in expanding and diversifying the company’s service offerings.
Medavia’s commitment to excellence and adaptability has propelled it to international recognition, making its specialised capabilities highly sought after by reputable organisations beyond its traditional markets.
Today, Medavia stands as a comprehensive aviation service provider, offering a robust portfolio that includes aircraft maintenance, ground handling, design engineering, charter brokerage, and a range of other ancillary services. Its reputation for reliability, technical expertise, and customer-focused solutions continues to strengthen its position as a trusted partner in the global aviation industry.
